Kingston hunt back-to-back wins against UWI

Following their emphatic innings and a 109-run win over Kingston and St Andrew Cricket Association last weekend, Kingston Cricket Club will be on the hunt for another six points as they face The University of the West Indies (UWI) in the second round of the Jamaica Cricket Association’s Senior Cup at the Mona Bowl.

Led by the national spin twins Patrick Harty Jr and captain Akim Fraser, Kingston were in awesome form on the opening weekend with Harty picking up nine wickets in the match and Fraser, six.

The Tigers batters also looked imperious with Lionel Morant scoring an unbeaten century with West Indies batsman Brandon King also getting a half-century along with Javaughn Buchanan and National player Kirk McKenzie.

For captain Fraser, the UWI clash serves up an interesting contest with some of the Kingston CC players returning to familiar territory.

“We are looking forward to the game against UWI because as many as six of our players played at UWI. We have started the group well and are in a good position with the outright win last week and we are looking to play positively this week.”

The UWI unit will also be up for the challenge as they are coming off a first-innings honours over Portland in last week’s drawn encounter.

In that contest, captain Brad Barnes along with Kishawn Graham and Kashawn Beale all scored half-centuries, and national player Barnes is looking to match up well once again against the Kingston attack.

“Kingston are a very good team and they have been training hard for a while now, so I expect a good challenge from them,” said Barnes.

Trinidadian off-spinner Isaiah Ali is also expected to factor for the students with former national youth player Raewin Senior also in their ranks.

Elsewhere, St Elizabeth will also be on the hunt for another outright win when they travel to Elgin Town to play Hanover. Police are also looking to make it two wins on the trot as they face Kensington at Elletson Road.

Other fixtures will see St James taking on Trelawny, St Mary hosting St Catherine Cricket Association, Clarendon welcoming G.C. Foster College at Sir P Oval, and Manchester squaring off with St Ann at Manchester High School.

St Catherine CC will entertain St Thomas in their first encounter of the campaign, Boys’ Town will play Lucas, with Kingston and St Andrew squaring off with Melbourne CC and the Jamaica Defence Force taking on Portland at Up Park Camp.
