Some of the biggest names in athletics will converge on the tourism capital of Montego Bay, St James, this weekend during the visit of International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach to Jamaica.

Olympians Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Deon Hemmings, Grace Jackson and Donald Quarrie are among those expected to be present..

This is Bach's first visit to the island that has produced the world's fastest man and fastest woman alive.

Bach, who arrived Friday evening at the IAM Jet Centre at the Sangster International Airport, was met by president of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), Christopher Samuda, and local dignitaries.

The JOA president said Bach was on the island because of the strong brand that Jamaica has in the Olympic movement.

"And certainly the performance of the Jamaica Olympic Association, we have been commended by the IOC for our vision and financial governance and administrative efficiencies."
