The three most successful schoolboy teams at the annual ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships (Champs), Kingston College (KC), Jamaica College (JC) and Calabar High, will lock horns at the Corporate Area Championships which start at 8:30 a.m. today at the National Stadium.

KC are defending champions among the boys while Excelsior High are defending girls’ champions.

With no clear favourites for the boys’ title at Champs meet manager Ricky Martin is expecting two days of fireworks especially among the boys’teams.

“All is set for two days of intense and exciting competition starting today with all finals of the 100 metres especially in Class One where KC’s Bouwahgjie Nkrumie, the World Under-20 silver-medallist has promised a fast time once the conditions are right,” said Martin.

At last Saturday’s Gibson McCook Relays the top-three male teams shared 10 of the relays and look set to dominate.

All three teams look evenly matched on the track in the respective classes and field events could play a major factor in deciding the outcome of the overall winners of the meet. World Under-20 shot put silver-medallist Kobe Lawrence of Calabar will lead the charge in the field events.

Following an inspired performance at the Gibson McCook Relays, especially from their Class Three athletes, led by Natrice East and Tiana Marshall, Wolmer’s Girls should give defending champions Excelsior a lot to think about in the girls’ section. Camperdown’s twin sisters Brittania and Brittanie Johnson who have dominated the Class One shot put all season should continue their impressive form.
