Important point for Chapelton Maroons

Chapelton Maroons picked up a valuable point in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) yesterday, after holding Portmore United to a 0-0 draw at the Anthony Spaulding Complex.
Although the Clarendon-based team remains at the foot of the table on seven points, one off Faulkland in 13th and eight points adrift of Vere, coach Clovis de Oliveira was still very pleased with the result.
“Today we played with six youth players. So it was very difficult to get one point off a team like Portmore.
“But we have to work hard to try as best as possible to keep this team in the Premier (League),” he said.
He added: “It’s better you draw than lose. Of course we would like three points. And the clearest chance of the night was ours, but we cannot give up. We have to continue to work to improve the players.”
Portmore dominated possession and had a few half chances in the first half but it was Chapelton who had the best chance of the game when David Reid was played through goalkeeper Benjamin Williams made a crucial save.
Portmore continued to have the better offence in the second half and early in the period Chapelton had to clear the ball off the line twice.
Lamar Walker also tested Mikhail Harrison with a powerful shot from close range, while Tevin Scott couldn’t turn home great chance from four yards.
“Once again we are left disappointed with the result,” said Portmore coach Phillip Williams. “I think we deserve more out of the game but our decisions in the final third are letting us down.
“What we need to do to solve the problem is easy but the players are making it difficult in terms of their decision-making,” Williams said.
The result left Portmore in eighth on 22 points.
