Bryan bags seven but JDF is in trouble against Kingston
NATIONAL FAST bowler Gordon Bryan had a day to remember with the ball for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), bagging seven wickets against Kingston CC. However, the army men were in trouble in their reply, following day one of fourth-round action in the Jamaica Cricket Association’s Senior Cup.
The soldiers will resume today’s second and final day on 83 for seven, still trailing by 111 runs after the JDF had restricted Kingston to 194 all out.
Bryan was the main destroyer in the Tigers’ innings with the bat, sending down 17.2 deliveries, including seven maidens to end with figures of seven wickets for 32 runs. He was supported by Leighton Leslie who picked up two for 29.
Andre Bailey would also get some of the plaudits on the day, top-scoring for Kingston with 68 from 103 balls before he went lbw to Bryan.
Shelton Forbes chipped in with 40 while Mickayle Riley got 31.
Bailey then came up trumps with the ball, bagging four for 30 to leave the army men in a tailspin at 83 for seven, with Carlton Green picking up two for 16.
Leslie will resume today on 27 and with him is Oshane Williams on 11.
Over at Nelson Oval, Carlos Brown hit 108 to lead St Catherine CC to 333 for seven declared against hosts Lucas, who closed the day on 97 for three.
West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell chipped in with 63 from just 36 balls with national player Jeavor Royal getting an even 50.

Nicholas Lewin has so far top-scored for Lucas with 49, with Royal picking up two for 33.
Hosts Melbourne will resume today’s second day on 181 for two, replying to Portland’s first-innings score of 194. Herman Henry made 90 and Robert Weir, 61 for Portland.
Andre McCarthy bagged four for 38 and Matthew Comrie, three for 23. Captain Javelle Glenn has so far top-scored for the Kangaroos with 65, while Michael Frew made 50, against two wickets for Attoy Newell.
At Kensington Park, the hosts, deciding to bat, made 254 all out against St Thomas. Alex Hinds top-scored with 56 while Jamie Hay and Denniel Griffith made 49 each, against three wickets apiece for Keno Wallace and Fitzroy Reid.
Reid then hit an unbeaten 41 to lead St Thomas to 73 for two in reply.
Police have already secured first-innings honours over Mico, with the students posting 178 and the lawmen replying with 179 for six at stumps.
Ricardo McIntosh made 61 in Mico’s innings while Chevon Simpson has, so far, top-scored for Police with 56.
Clarendon have put themselves in a good position to secure maximum points from Manchester. Clarendon first made 162 all out before restricting Manchester to 70 all out with Charlton Brooks bagging five for 27.
Clarendon reached 111 for five batting a second time with Adrian Weir getting 43.
UWI were 208 for eight replying to 171 made by Kingston and St Andrew Cricket Association (KSACA).
National player Chadwick Walton made 52 and Jair Campbell, 59, in the students’ innings while Keron Edwards made 60 for KSACA. Sanjay Brown bagged five for 36 and Brad Barnes four for 55, bowling for UWI.
