Four wins for Jamaicans on NCAA Indoor Champs’ final day

Jamaican athletes ended yesterday’s final day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships in New Mexico in fine style, picking up four wins and two third-place finishes.

The wins included three in the field events and one on the track.

Jaydon Hibbert of the University of Arkansas won the men's triple jump with 17.54 metres, a personal best, meet and championship record, as Owayne Owens of the University of Virginia took third, with a personal best of 16.69 metres.

Romaine Beckford of the University of South Florida captured the men's high jump after clearing 2.24 metres.

Lamara Distin of Texas A&M University won the women's high jump with 1.91 metres, while Ackera Nugent of the University of Arkansas won on the track, with success in the women's 60 metres hurdles in 7.73 seconds.

Ackelia Smith of the University of Texas placed third in the women's triple jump with 14.29 metres.
