Impressive Molynes whip Maroons 3-1

Molynes United scored three first-half goals to beat Chapelton Maroons 3-1 in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday. The win lifted Molynes to ninth place in the league with 22 points.
The result pushed the Maroons into deeper trouble at the foot of the league. They are on seven points from 19 games.
“Back-to-back wins and I am very happy,” said Molynes coach Alex Thomas. “The plan was to get an early goal and that is what we did. In the second half we got a lot of chances but complacency set in. Once you get a team to put away, you have to do that.”
He added that they hope to build on recent results and push for the top six.
“We are still in reach of the top six but it is just one game at a time for us. Mount Pleasant are next and we are going to plan for that, and just push the team as far as possible,” he said.
Molynes came out the blocks early and forged ahead through Jermy Nelson in the 13th minute. They extended their lead seven minutes later when Nicholas Nelson fired home to put them 2-0 up.
Jason Wright rounded off an impressive half hour for the winners when he added a third in the 33rd minute.
Although Chapelton exhibited good passing football throughout, they were let down by poor decision-making in the final third.
The Clarendon-based team continued to push Molynes back in the second half and they got an early reward when Mark Lewis fired home from inside the 18-yard box.
Lewis had another great chance soon after but placed his header just wide of the target. Molynes pressed forward midway the half and had a few openings but they failed to capitalise on the chances.
Chapelton’s coach, Brazilian Clovis de Oliveira, said they will continue to fight to the end.
“It is very difficult. There were many players who (we) had to change because of the yellow cards, red cards and injuries.
“But we will not give up. The only thing we can do is continue our work, believe in our work and do the best for Chapelton.
“I am 100 per cent focused on the situation now. The situation is not very well for us. But we have to continue. I will give the best and try to end this league as best as possible,” he said.
