THE 2023 Mayberry Investment Mayberry Investment Schools Swimming Championships lived up to expectations following the two-day meet held over the weekend at the National Aquatics Centre, National Stadium.

In the high school division, 2022 girls’ champions Immaculate Conception ran away with the 2023 title after amassing a total of 582 points over second-place Campion College, who finished with 379, and third-place finishers St Andrew High with 354.

In the boys category, defending champions Campion College had to play second fiddle this time around as they were dethroned by an outstanding all-round effort by Wolmer’s Boys. Wolmer’s were crowned 2023 champions after they tallied 492 points. They were well clear of Campion, who were second with 393. Kingston College finished third on 226 points.

In the prep schools competition, it was business as usual as Hillel Academy yet again swept both the boys and girls’ categories. Head coach of the 2023 champion school Wendy Lee stated that she was elated to have defended her crown against her rivals.

“I’m elated because we haven’t won everything this season. This is the first competition that the girls are winning. In the last two meets we finished second, so we really fought hard for this. Everyone knows coach Wendy really enjoys winning, so this feels good because this is the first title for the year - both the boys’ and girls’ teams - and it’s an awesome feeling,” she stated.

Lee added that it came as no surprise that Hillel retained their title because the sport is embedded in their curriculum at the school.

“We have a pool at school, and we have a very strong swimming programme, and we always do swimming as a subject in school while also having it as a curriculum activity, so in general, Hillel is a swimming family,” Lee said.

Defending champions Excelsior were the top primary school.
