#Champs2023 | McAnuff, Russell showdown on tap after both qualify for 400 final
An intense Class I Girls’ 400 metres is guaranteed from Holmwood Technical's Rickiann Russell and Hydel's Oneika McAnuff after the two main contenders secured passage to that final at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium earlier today.
McAnuff won her semi-final round, clocking 52.27 seconds, the fastest time among the finalists.
Russell, though, won her heat comfortably in 53.78, the third fastest time overall. Edwin Allen's Kacian Powell had the second fastest time, clocking 53.63.
Powell's teammate Tonyan Beckford, Hydel's Alliah Baker, St Catherine's Jamara Patterson, St Elizabeth Technical's Shanque Williams and Holmwood's Annalice Brady are the other finalists.
In Class II, Hydel's Jody Ann Daley secured her spot in the final, clocking 53.66, the fastest time amongst the qualifiers. St Catherine High's Kitania Headley (53.86) and Lacovia High's Sabrina Dockery (54.13) were the other top qualifiers. Holmwood Technical's Rosalee Gallimore, Edwin Allen's Kellyann Care, Hydel's Aaliyah Mullings, Gallimore's teammate Camio White and Vere Technical's Shevaughn Thomas are the other finalists.
Among the Class IIIs, Hydel's Nastassia Fletcher was quickest into the final, cruising across the tape in 54.60. Excelsior's Breana Brown (55.54) and Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High (55.75) were the other top qualifiers.
Rhianna Lewis of Rhodes Hall High, Wolmer's Girls’ Zonya-Camay Sterling and Kaysian Sewell, Holmwood's Britannaia Bailey, as well as Ferncourt High's Maddison complete the lineup of finalists.
The finals are scheduled for tomorrow evening.
