#Champs2023 | Alana Reid cruises into 200 metres semifinals

Alana Reid began her quest for a sprint double, by qualifying comfortably for the semifinals of the 200 metres today at the National Stadium, after breaking the Class One girls’ 100 metres record at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships last night.
Reid clocked 24.52 seconds to win her heat, the seventh fastest time overall. St Catherine High's Kamaria Knight had the fastest qualifying time, clocking 23.90. Edwin Allen's Kacian Powell, with 23.92 and Wolmer's Girls’ Mickayla Gardner, with 23.96, were the other top qualifiers.
Reid smashed the Class One girls’ 100 metres record last night, clocking 10.92 seconds in the final to capture the title and break the 22-year mark set by Veronica Campbell Brown.
Class Two girls’ 100 metres champion Holy Childhood’s Abigail Wolfe also kept her chances for a sprint double alive, winning her 200 metres first round in 25.07. Lacovia High's Sabrina Dockery had the fastest time qualifying, clocking 23.55, with Habiba Harris of St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) with 24.19 and Briana Campbell of St Jago High the other top qualifiers.
Class Three girls’ 100 metres champion Edwin Allen’s Theianna-Lee Terrelonge is also on course for a sprint double in her final year in the class, clocking 24.76 seconds, the fastest time among the qualifiers. The Hydel pair of Nastassia Fletcher with 24.77 and Onetta Mitchell with 24.91 were the other top qualifiers.
In Class Four, Kevina Bourne of Port Antonio High qualified with the fastest time of 25.36, with Tresha-Lee Sutherland of Clarendon College with 25.36 and Maya Oakley of Holmwood Technical with 25.79 being the other top qualifiers. Class Four 100 metres champion Immaculate’s Kayla Johnson, as well as silver medalist teammate Naje Brown, also progressed.
