Dave Myrie, principal of Kingston College (KC), has reminded rival schools never to underestimate the heart of a champion.

Myrie, who was speaking at the championship parade on the school ground earlier this morning after his KC won the 113th iteration of the ISS/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Saturday night, believed that his group had something to prove in 2023, the year when they would grab the Mortimer Geddes Trophy for the 34th time.

Myrie said he was aware of ‘pre-champs’ analysis which suggested the defending champions should come under pressure to defend the title they won in 2022.

“We would have been looking at all of what the analysts were saying about Kingston College is going to lose, win by two points or it’s going to be a close championship and all of that. We were here, in KC, just shaking our heads and laughing. Never bet against KC because when it comes to championships, we are going to dig deep and fight. Our Motto says, ‘The brave may fall but never yield’,” said Myrie.
