MOJITO’s IMPROVEMENT in blinkers moved him from MAMMA MIA’s bridesmaid to Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes winner, now winter-book favourite for this season’s classics, starting with Sunday’s Prince Consort Stakes.

Since his maiden win last November, fitted with blinkers at six furlongs, following two gaining-with-every-stride losses to MAMMA MIA, MOJITO has been a transformed animal.

In the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, MOJITO didn’t need BURLAP’s half-baked attempt at being pacesetter, bounding past his stablemate and MAMMA MIA a half-mile out to race clear and unmolested into the lane.

Returning for the Prince Consort against colts and geldings, most of whom were outclassed by fillies as two-year-olds, MOJITO really has nothing to fear from his nine rivals. In landing the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, MOJITO had the fillies’ squadron of LEGIT BOSS, MAMMA MIA, ALL FOR LOVE and THALITA in a bundle behind him at the finish.

The colt showing notable improvement as a three-year-old is ROULETTE BOSS, who franked an exercise gallop with 2020 derby winner KING ARTHUR by returning to chase down speedy DUROCELL at seven and a half furlongs for back-to-back wins, beating Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes fourth-place ANONYMOUS into third on February 26.

ROULETTE BOSS’ willingness suggests he will enjoy mid to long-distance races and could very well be the exacta horse behind MOJITO, who is travelling too sweet at exercise to be opposed.

At exercise last Sunday morning, MOJITO all but engraved his name on the Prince Consort trophy, galloping five and a half furlongs in 1:07.2.
