ST GEORGE’S (CMC):

FORMER ST Vincent and the Grenadines Women’s captain and Windward Islands batsman, Stacy Ann Adams, has been appointed the first woman on the Windwards selection panel.

Directors of the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB), under new president Dwain Gill, ratified the historic appointment of Adams at their annual general meeting this past Thursday in the Grenada capital.

“I am thankful and delighted to be named in such esteemed company as a selector for the WICB,” Adams said in a news release.

“I am thrilled by the appointment and the arrant confidence and faith that the board has shown in me.

“I have always been a mere humble servant of the sport, and as such, I am prepared to work hard with profound integrity and professionalism to give my best in this role, adding to the continuity and development of Windward Islands cricket.”

The 33-year-old is a Level 1 certified cricket coach, and she has been a commentator of the SVG Ten10 tournament, where she has shown a broad knowledge of the sport.

Adams will round out the panel of four, with former Windward Islands all-rounder Craig Emmanuel taking over the role of lead selector.

The other newcomer to the panel is former Windwards opener Heron Campbell, who has captained Grenada at age group levels.

Former Windward Islands captain Liam Sebastien of Dominica is the other member of the panel and has served in the role for the past two years with Emmanuel.

The two outgoing members of the panel are former lead selector Steve Mahon and Roland Wilkinson.

The WICB also announced the support staff for its teams for the rest of the year with former players such as women’s batsman Samantha Lynch, as well as men’s left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin and wicketkeeper-batsman Lindon James getting appointments.
