SURF CITY, El Salvador:

Elishama Beckford ensured Jamaica have two representatives in the second round of the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games (WSG) after qualifying from heat 29 in the Men's Open on day two at Surf City today.

Beckford, who went out in the morning session, finished second in the heat behind Australian Ethan Ewing, who secured the heat with a 13.76 score.

Beckford's first two waves were scored at 5.17 and 4.57 for a total of 9.74, and that bettered Dominica Republic's Christain Padilla, who scored 7.43.

In the meantime, Jamaica's debutant surfer Javaun Brown failed to advance to the next round after he finished third in heat 33.

Brown, who struggled throughout the heat with his control, also received a penalty on his third wave and scored 3.07 from the judges.

Australia's Liam O'Brian took the heat with a score of 12.37, with Dominic Republic's Saori Perez securing the other automatic qualifying spot with a score of 8.06.
