ACCORDING TO Reggae Girlz team doctor Gillian Lawrence, forward Jody Brown, who suffered a thigh injury during their practice game against Morocco on Monday, is responding well to treatment and has a good chance of playing the team’s opening World Cup match against France on Sunday.

After the game on Monday, coach Lorne Donaldson said the young forward was sure to be sidelined for a couple days.

Yesterday, she went through her paces with Dr Lawrence, who all but confirmed that the forward would be available to take some part on Sunday.

“She received an injury in the early portion of the match against Morocco. She was assessed on the pitch, and when we got back to our base, we started treatment, and we decided she would be treated aggressively in the interim, and she has been responding really well to that,” Lawrence revealed.

According to Lawrence, a scan of the injury was not necessary and the recovery, to date, has borne that out.

‘PAIN IS LOW’

“We are still not looking at getting that done. Right now she has been responding really well. Her pain is low, and she will actually train today.

“We will see what she does in training today, and after training, we will make another assessment on where her medical treatment will be,” she said.

Although positive, she maintained that Brown is still touch and go for Sunday. “We are now at match day minus four. So we will decide the best course to have her to be as ready as possible for minutes on Sunday.”

Brown, who plays both for Jamaica’s under-20s as well as the senior team, is known for her skilful wing play and is considered crucial to providing width and pushing back opponents’ attacking options down the flanks.
