Sunshine Girls pass South Africa test with flying colours
Thanks to a defensive masterclass from Jodi Ann Ward and Shamera Sterling, Jamaica passed their first big test of the Netball World Cup, defeating host nation South Africa 67-49 in their Pool C game in Cape Town today.
Jhaniele Fowler had 39 goals while Shanice Beckford chipped in with 19.
South Africa kept it close at halftime with the score 32-26 but the Sunshine Girls used a third quarter surge to overwhelm them, with Ward and Sterling limiting the Proteas to just three goals in that quarter.
Jamaica finish preliminary stage on top of Pool C with six points and will begin stage two facing the top three teams from Pool D starting tomorrow.
