President of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA), Andrew Lue, says the association’s audited statements for 2021-22 and 2022-23 are expected to be completed by the end of the month and this will pave the way for their annual general meeting (AGM) and election of officers.

The AGM, which has been due since February, has been pushed back on a number of occasions because of the absence of the audits and the finalisation of the list of affiliates. However, Lue said the word from the auditors is that they should have the audits finished by the end of August.

“The audits are being done as we speak. The auditors said it will be completed by the end of August, so we look forward to our AGM in September.

“This is the first administration that will have their first full year in office fully audited, in a very long time,” he pointed out.

He said although there have been suggestions to hold the AGM without the financial audits, that has never crossed his mind, as that was one of his main disagreements with the previous administration.

“Other people were suggesting it but I never said that. The audit is a constitutional requirement and it is something we have to take seriously and our stake- holders deserve it.

“So we take great pride in that because it is a constitutional requirement and that is why we have stuck out on it,” he reasoned.

“That is one of the things I protested about with the previous administration. So I cannot be a hypocrite,” said Lue.

Meanwhile, he revealed also that they have reduced the affiliates list from over a 100 to less than 40 and that it should be ready in very short order.

“The list is almost finished. It is at the right size without fear or favour. Coming from 105 affiliates we are down to less than 40. So we will see how it goes.

“But the auditors said they will be finished by the end of August, and as soon as they tell me it is finished we will have 14 days notice to give, and that is where we are,” he stated.
