Swaby earns AC Milan contract after wonderful World Cup
WITH HER stocks boosted by stellar performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Reggae Girlz defender Allyson Swaby has earned a move to Italian giants, AC Milan.
The 26-year-old, who was on loan at French club Paris Saint-Germain from Angel City FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), will go on a permanent move to the Italian club.
On Monday, Angel City FC announced that a deal had been reached and that a fee had been agreed but would not be disclosed.
General manager at Angel City, Angela Hucles Mangano, said they are happy to secure the deal for the centre back, who has struggled for regular playing time in the last year.
“Allyson will always be a part of our club’s history and we look forward to seeing her next chapter with AC Milan.
“We are happy we were able to get this deal in place after her tremendous performance on the world stage of football with team Jamaica, appearing in her second World Cup. We truly wish her nothing but the best,” Mangano’s statement read.
Swaby spent the past six months on loan with Paris Saint-Germain. She left Roma FC after three seasons to join Angel City for their inaugural season in the NWSL.
The defender helped Roma to the Coppa Italia in 2021, their first major trophy. She also scored Jamaica’s only goal during group stage of the World Cup, helping to secure the country’s first-ever win at the tournament and a historic trip to the knockout rounds.
The transfer ends a frustrating spell for the defender, who many have called the Reggae Girlz’s player of the tournament at the World Cup.
