Jamaica’s Adelle Tracey and Natoya Goule-Toppin secured spots in the semi-final round of the women’s 800 metres, both finishing second in their first-round heats at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Tracey had to run through traffic down the last 100 metres to produce a season’s best 1:59.82 minutes, finishing behind Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi, 1:59.68.

Goule Toppin, meanwhile, was more comfortable, her 1:59.64 coming traffic free as she, along with United States defending champion Athing Mu, 1:59.59, separated themselves from a chasing pack with a quickish opening lap.

Mu’s teammate Nia Akins is the quickest through to the semi-finals, clocking 1:59.19 to win heat five.
