Annotto Bay stay perfect after clipping St Mary High in daCosta Cup

Annotto Bay High maintained their perfect start to this year’s ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup following a narrow 3-2 win over St Mary High yesterday in their lone Zone I fixture played at the Highgate Community Centre.

The win, which was the third in a row for Annotto Bay, saw them take command of the zone with nine points. St Mary’s second loss in three games saw them remain in fifth place on three points.

Meanwhile, a couple of exciting fixtures highlight today’s round of matches with a mouth-watering Zone J clash which features leaders Dinthill Technical travelling to face second-place Charlemont High.

Dinthill will start as favourites having scored nine goals in their two wins so far while Charlemont have so far scored two goals in their lone win over Ewarton.

Zone L will also be in the limelight as last year’s beaten finalists Central High, who are in third position in the standings, will be looking to shrug off their huge 5-1 defeat to leaders Glenmuir when they face second-place Denbigh High who are brimming with confidence following an 18-0 hammering of Porus High in their opening fixture.

Central High head coach Jermaine Douglas says his troops are motivated despite the huge loss to Glenmuir.

“Up until the end of the Glenmuir game, we were still creating chances, but we were not putting them away. We have to put our chances away against Denbigh and I know we will rebound,” Douglas said.

Leaders Glenmuir are expected to have a field day when they welcome a demoralised Porus side after the double-digit drubbing in their opening fixture.

Elsewhere, former champions and Zone B leaders Rusea’s High will be on the hunt for their third win on the trot when they travel to third-place Merlene Ottey who are coming off a 4-0 win over Cambridge High in their last encounter.

Zone G leaders Knox College are also keen to keep their 100 per cent win record intact when they square off with third-place Christiana High.
