Jamar Cummings bagged a hat trick as Clan Carthy High defeated Cedar Grove Academy 4-2 in the lone Group D ISSA Manning Cup match played yesterday at Alpha Academy.

The points were Clan Carthy’s first of the season and Cummings gave them an early lead scoring his first goal after only two minutes of play. But Charles Reid restored parity for Cedar Grove with a goal four minutes later.

The diminutive Cummings then added a second in the 17th minute of the game to give Clan Carthy a 2-1 lead, but Ajani Johnson equalised for Cedar Grove two minutes before the interval as the teams went in at the break tied 2-2.

However, after the break, Cummings sealed his three-timer and gave his team the advantage for a third time with a 68th-minute goal. Daneil Edwards then secured the first win of the season for the east Kingston school with another strike a minute later.

Cummings told The Gleaner that it is a challenge getting to training most times, as his mother is not too keen on him playing the sport. However, after his first career hat trick he said the effort was worth it.

“Sometimes I have to convince my mom to let me go to training but in the end, the hard work has paid off,” he said.

Clan Carthy are now fourth in the group on three points, the same as Tarrant, who have played the same number of games (four). Cedar Grove stay rooted at the foot of the table with no point, also after four games.

St Andrew Technical and Excelsior share the lead at the top of the group on 12 points each. The two teams will meet today in the top-of-the-table clash at Boys’ Town field at 3:30 p.m.

Bridgeport occupy third spot with six points from their four matches.

Yesterday’s other scheduled game, an incomplete match between Hydel High and Camperdown High, was not played as Camperdown failed to show.
