WITH RAIN putting paid to their first two matches, former senior schoolgirls’ netball champions Camperdown were in a no-nonsense mood at home on Friday, overwhelming St Andrew High School 41 -3 in their first game of the season in Zone A.

Camperdown coach, Wayne Stewart, also watched her junior team romp to an 18-9 victory over St Andrew.

Stewart was happy to finally be able to open her season.

“I am happy that the senior team was able to open their account, as the girls were very anxious to get their season under way. The big margin was not a surprise, as this is a very good team and the girls are very confident of going very deep into the competition,” said a confident Stewart.

In two other senior matches on Friday, Merl Grove and Immaculate had big wins in Zone C. Merl Grove stopped Dunoon Technical 37-6 while Immaculate made it two wins in a row after turning back Holy Childhood 34-11.

In junior competition, Jonathan Grant got by Clan Carthy 28-8 in Zone A, while, in Zone C, Papine were too good for Meadowbrook with a 35-8 win. Also in Zone C, Holy Childhood turned the tables on Immaculate for an 11-8 win. Excelsior got the other win on the day after a 19-5 victory over Mona.

Three junior matches were also played in the rural competition, with Herbert Morrison Technical and Montego Bay High enjoying wins in Zone A.

Herbert Morrison beat Holland High 38-3 while Montego Bay got by Irwin 14-4.

In a Zone E encounter, Bishop Gibson had a big 39-6 win over DeCarteret College.
