Yesterday’s scheduled Boom El Clasico preseason opener between long-time rivals Arnett Gardens FC and Waterhouse FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex was postponed, after a 48-hour curfew was imposed on sections of the community and Torrington Park.

The game, which marks the opening of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season, was called off following the shooting death of a man in Arnett Gardens late on Saturday and the imposition of a curfew by the Kingston West Police Division. The curfew started on Sunday at 8 a.m. and is set to remain in effect until 8 p.m. today.

When The Gleaner contacted Professional Football Jamaica Limited CEO Owen Hill on Sunday, he said that they had received clearance for the game. However, after getting a feel of the situation on the ground, they thought it prudent to postpone the match for a date to be announced.
