SHE’S MY DESTINY, with Ramon Nepare aboard, wins the 49th running of the Phillip Feanny OD Gold Cup over seven furlongs at Caymanas Park on Monday, October 16, 2023.

SHE’S MY DESTINY closed from just off the pace in the stretch run to collar MAHOGANY midway the last quarter-furlong of yesterday’s Philip Feanny Gold Cup, denying Ian Parsard’s speedster back-to-back victories in the seven-furlong event.

Reporting with the handicaps again in her favour and flying at exercise in the mornings after taking out impressive American RUNAWAY ALGO with 100lb at six furlongs in her last start, local-bred SHE’S MY DESTINY made the most of her lightweight 106lb by racing fourth along the rail down the backstretch while stablemates ROJORN DI PILOT and MAHOGANY alternated on the lead.

Ridden to lead from the wide draw at stall seven, ROJORN DI PILOT was soon hounded by MAHOGANY while SHE’S MY DESTINY raced along the rail off the fray, just fourth, behind I’VE GOT MAGIC.

MAHOGANY took over leaving the half-mile marker, lugging near-topweight 123lb, with ROJORN DI PILOT still second approaching the home turn while SHE’S MY DESTINY mended along the rail, keeping pace with the leaders.

Coming off the turn, MAHOGANY kicked clear but splits of 1:10.4 started taking toll on the six-year-old approaching the final furlong. PERFECT BREW, who made up tremendous ground to slip into second with a perfect rail run at the top of the straight, wilted in his attempt to chase MAHOGANY, a task SHE’S MY DESTINY willingly took on when asked to launch forward by lightweight claiming rider Ramon Nepare.

Quickening inside the last furlong, SHE’S MY DESTINY’s 17lb advantage reared its head as the five-year-old filly mowed down MAHOGANY, whose strides shortened with every leap, a virtual surrender to the filly, who won with Nepare showboating close home.

SHE’S MY DESTINY handed champion trainer Jason DaCosta his second winner on the Heroes Day nine-race card, having won the fourth event with off-the-break HEART OF THE SEA, partnered at five furlongs straight by Abigail Able, who won completed her first-ever two-timer after booting home Richard Azan’s JOBLANE in the second at six furlongs.

Shamaree Muir also rode two winners, opening the card with SKYRIZI, making all at five furlongs round among three-year-old maidens. Muir returned to bring down the curtain with Jamaica Derby runner-up MONEY MISER, beating non-winners of two races at seven furlongs.

Racing continues on Saturday.
