HOLMWOOD TECHNICAL continued from where they left off in the first round of the ISSA Schoolgirl Netball competition, picking up wins in the second against Montego Bay High and Green Pond at Manning’s on Friday.

The Carline Graham-Powell-coached senior side dismissed Montego Bay, 76-5, while her juniors beat all-island champions Green Pond 19-11.

Graham-Powell’s choice to replace Chaplain with Toniann Flemmings meant Holmwood would not skip a beat in the senior Group 1 encounter.

The demolition job was completed with the services of goal shooter Rashede Brown and goal attack Jaden Swaby. Wing defence Tonia Williams also marshalled her defence to stifling effect.

It was all Holmwood from the start as they rushed into a 17-1 lead after the first quarter. They stepped up the pace in the second quarter rushing to 39 goals, blanking Montego Bay in the period.

Holmwood would then pour in some 24 goals in the third quarter to lead 63-4 going into the final stanza.

They took their feet off the gas in the final quarter, scoring 13 goals to end with a big 71-goal margin.

“I am glad for the win, but I was not pleased with the overall execution, especially in the final quarter as I think they should have scored a lot more goals,” said Graham-Powell.

With only an eight-goal win by her junior team over Green Pond, Graham-Powell is very cautious about them defending their title successfully.

“It was a nervy start by our junior team today as it is a very young team. I am just taking it one game at a time,” said Graham-Powell.

In Group 2 senior action, Manchester High outlasted Cambridge High 39-26 at St Elizabeth Technical High School, while their juniors had an impressive 37-9 win over Mile Gully High.

Second-round action will continue next Tuesday.
