LOCAL BODYBUILDER Duvaughn Dick is beaming with joy, not only because of his latest exploits at the recently concluded National Physique Committee (NPC) Atlantic Coast Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he won a slew of medals in a competition contested by over 100 participants but also because of what he foresees for the sport.

“Tomorrow is another day to improve on this achievement. It felt great and it’s a feeling I want to experience on my own soil. So now I go into off-season to improve my physique and I’m going to work hard to make those improvements for the Jamaica National Championships next year and go for the Mr Jamaica 2024 title,” said Dick.

Dick took top honours in the categories of Classic Physique Masters over 35, Classic Physique open class, Open Body Building, Open Classic Physique, Masters 35 Classic Physique and the overall best male athlete of the competition. The results, particularly the overall best male athlete, Dick, while describing the results as surprising and humbling, says have come as testament to the hard work and dedication he’s put into the sport.

“It felt great to win both classes I entered on the Saturday (Classic Physique Masters over 35 and Classic Physique open class). But it was an amazing feeling to win all three categories I entered on Sunday (Open Body Building, Open Classic Physique, Masters 35 Classic Physique). The award for best male athlete of the competition award was surprising and humbling,” said Dick.

The reigning NPC Atlantic Coast Championships male athlete of the year said his love for the sport and country motivate him to keep going in the sport.

“My love for the sport and representing the country keeps me going and motivated. Bodybuilding has changed my life for the better, I was over 300 pounds and lost 100 to compete in the sport and I’ve kept it off for five years now,” he stated.

For newcomers to the sport of bodybuilding, Dick said that in order to gain success, it takes a certain level of patience.

“It takes time and patience, you can’t rush your body into fulfilling its potential and it’s also a daily effort, every single day if you want to be great.”
