The ‘Emperor’ romps Ahwhofah feature
EMPEROROFTHECATS took over from GOD OF LOVE after a furlong and ran away from the pack leaving the half-mile marker for an easy win in yesterday’s six-furlong Ahwhofah Trophy.
Unraced since May when beating open-allowance runners at odds of 16-1 at five furlongs straight, four-year-old EMPEROROFTHECATS put his ageing rivals to the sword, returning down in class among overnight-allowance company.
Coasting past the three-furlong pole with 8-5 favourite EMPEROROFTHECATS unmolested on a five-length lead, claiming rider Shavon Townsend didn’t have to do much in the stretch run to complete independent two-timers for himself and trainer Carl Anderson.
Townsend had earlier made all astride LITTLE GROVY THING at odds of 7-2 in the sixth event at five furlongs straight for older non-winners of four races.
Anderson notched his first winner with CRUCIAL ALEXXYA, who survived a jockey’s objection to keep the following race at five furlongs round, ridden by Raddesh Roman, who had earlier won the second event with Steven Todd’s 1-2 favourite WILSON.
Todd saddled back-to-back winners, completing his double with 7-1shot OH SO SMART in the Starter’s Trophy for two-year-olds at five furlongs straight.
Racing continues at the weekend with Saturday-Sunday meets.
