SEVEN ADDITIONAL players will join Montego Bay United FC (MBU) in the second round of the 2023-2024 Wray & Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League, the team announced yesterday during a training session on their home field at the Wespow Park in Montego Bay.

Some familiar faces are among the seven that will suit up for the remainder of the season; they include four Jamaicans, two Trinidadians and one St Lucian.

The best-known player among the seven is home-grown player, Jourdaine Fletcher, who plays forward. Fletcher is returning to the club after playing in Albania and is a former national team player. Fletcher said the club should do well in the remaining matches of this season and they are eyeing a top-six spot.

“This is a boost for the team. I think it is going to be a very good rest of the season for the club. Owayne Gordon, Brian Brown and I are a massive attacking trio. Our aim now is to go to the top six in the competition. I had a difficult time in Albania so I just decided I to leave there and give Montego Bay a helping hand. That is the reason I came back. This is my third season with MBU. Today was a good training session because we have been working very hard, so coming out on the pitch today, we did what the coach showed us and executed it. I saw dedication from the team and we fought hard and kept fighting,” Fletcher said.

Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago under-20 player, Darnell Hospedales, said his intention is to do his best.

“This is my first time in Jamaica and I want to bring aggression to the team and defend as much as I can. I will try my best to keep out the opposition wingers and things like that. I want to gather as many assists as I can for my teammates. Immediately after I came, the team welcomed me with open arms. I was given an offer so I took it. I always follow up on Jamaican football and the premier league. It is always great to come out of your home country and play football and when you are doing something you love, it is even better,” Hospedales said.

Due to the voting congress of the Jamaica Football Federation on Sunday, January 14, all matches have been postponed and the league will resume on January 15.

MBU sit 10th in the standings with 15 points after winning four games and losing six. They will host Lime Hall Academy on Wednesday, January 17 at 3 p.m.

The new MBU players are: Gregson President (St Lucia), Josiah Trimmingham (Trinidad); Darnell Hospedales (Trinidad) and Jamaicans Daniel Reid, Jourdaine Fletcher, Owayne Gordon and Courtney Allen.
