AFTER PLAYING second fiddle to Reyan Lewis in last season’s Jockeys’ Championship, Tevin Foster believes he is now more prepared to go one better when all rides are cast at the end of 2024.

Foster, who entered Ash Wednesday’s race day tied with Raddesh Roman on 13 victories, said he was pleased with the 89 victories he had last season.

“Actually, I was pleased, and I can’t complain. It was my best year, and I’m looking forward to a better year this year. I was overwhelmed, overjoyed, to have gotten 89 victories, so I was grateful for last year’s experience,” said Foster.

Nicknamed ‘Terrific’, Foster said he has been satisfied with the way 2024 has started, but is now more cognizant of the mindset he has to employ if he is to achieve more than he did last season.

Foster, in September of 2023, became one of three jockeys to represent TruShake as brand ambassadors. That partnership, Foster says, is one of the reasons he has been able to achieve more success in recent times.

“The partnership has been going extremely well, as TruShake has been tremendous in my life; and I hope that they will extend the contract when it’s time for renewal,” he said.

Foster wants to repay the trust TruShake has put in him.

“I’m satisfied and I’m 100 per cent confident that this year will be a better year. All I have to do is just keep working for the rest of the year and put my best foot forward at all times.”

Still, the man they call Terrific is not under any illusions about how difficult winning the jockeys’ title will be, saying he expects the ding-dong battle between himself and Roman, a feature of the early going this year, will continue deep into the season.
