Interesting times are indeed ahead following the running of the weekend’s Portmore and Kingston Guineas prep events.

RUN JULIE RUN clocked 1:33.2 to easily land the fillies-only Portmore on Saturday, followed by INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD clocking 1:33.1 in the Kingston for a fourth consecutive victory yesterday.

Champion two-year-old of last season after beating RUN JULIE RUN by two and a half lengths in December’s Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes at a mile, INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD put in a workmanlike performance yesterday, emulating his rival’s run in the Portmore on Saturday.

Similar to RUN JULIE RUN, INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD made every post a winning one, peeling six lengths clear three furlongs out to beat CAPTAIN SPARROW by four and a quarter, almost the identical margin he had on his rival when beating the closer into fourth place in the Prince Consort Stakes.

Tevin Foster broke INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD sharply to make all, surprising even trainer Jason DaCosta, who, while wiping beads of sweat, afterwards admitted his instructions weren’t exactly adhered to by the leading rider.

Foster, now 11 clear of Raddesh Roman atop the jockeys’ standings - after earlier opening the nine-race card with BENSON - went with his guts aboard the Bold Conquest-My Friend Lucy offspring, testing the colt’s limits ahead of next month’s 2000 Guineas at a mile.

INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD closed a three-timer for champion trainer DaCosta for whom Robert Halledeen had earlier booted home LIFE IS LIFE and United STATES-bred CHOCOMO in the fourth and seventh events, respectively.

Halledeen lit up the card with a four-timer, making all with American WALL STREET TRADER in the second for his first win, closing the programme aboard three-year-old débutante, SHE’S THAT GIRL, who won a three-way photo by a nose at four furlongs straight from post-position two.

Racing continues on Saturday before a jam-packed four meets in seven days, starting May 18, including Labour Day, Thursday, May 23.
