National discus thrower Roje Stona won the men’s event at the World Continental Tour Gold meet at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles last Saturday.

Stona, who led from start to finish, won the event easily with a mark of 66.93 metres. Claudio Romero of Chile was second, with 64.12m, and Brian Williams of the United States took third with 63.36m.

At the same meet, Roshawn Clarke, Andrenette Knight, and Shanieka Ricketts were second in their events.

Clarke clocked a season’s best 48.11 seconds in the 400m hurdles won by American Rai Benjamin in a world-leading time of 46.64. Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands was third in 48.57. Malik James-King was sixth in 49.09 and Jaheel Hyde finished ninth in 50.15.

Ricketts, fresh off her win at the recent Jamaica Athletics Invitational meet, was a close second in the women’s triple jump after a distance of 14.36 metres. World Indoor champion Thea LaFond of Dominica won with 14.37m. Jamaica’s Kimberly Williams ended fifth with 13.35m.

The fast-starting Knight clocked a season’s best 54,69 in the women’s 400m hurdles behind American Anna Cockrell, who won in a season’s best 53.75.

Lanae-Tava Thomas was the best finisher among the Jamaicans in the women’s 100m after clocking 11.35 seconds for third as Melissa Jefferson of the United States won in 11.27, just ahead of fellow American Marolake Atkinson, who was second in 11.28. Alana Reid was fifth in 11.36, Tia Clayton, sixth in 11.47, and Natasha Morrison placed seventh in 11.51.

There was disappointment for Ackeem Blake in the men’s 100 metres. The Jamaican was disqualified for a false start in the event won by Kyree King of the United States in 10.11.

Jamaica’s Stacy Ann Williams was fifth in the women’s 400m in 51.38 seconds while Rajandra Campbell ended sixth in the men’s shot put with a best of 21.07m.
