KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC):

Newly minted two-day champions Barbados collected their third win when they defied a destructive spell from Tamarie Redwood in a less than convincing nine-run win against Jamaica in a low-scoring contest in the West Indies Men’s Under-19 Super50 Championship in St Vincent yesterday.

Combined Campuses & Colleges leg-spinner Zishan Motara took three for 17 from 7.4 overs, and West Indies Under-19 pacer Ranieco Smith supported with three for 32 from 7.1 overs and led the demolition of the Jamaican batting for 117 in 37.4 overs

Chasing 127 to win, the Jamaicans stumbled 38 for four in the seventh over, but a stand of 59 between Steve Wedderburn, whose 41 was the top score, and Matthew Morgan put them within sight of overhauling the target.

But Motara undermined the bottom half of the batting, and Jamaica lost their last six wickets for 20 in the span of 65 balls to give the Barbadians their third consecutive win and keep them on course.

Earlier, Redwood continued his rich vein of bowling form with five for 34 from his allotted 10 overs, and Barbados were bowled out for a modest 126 in 35.5 overs after they decided to bat.

AT CUMBERLAND: Half-centuries from opener Rampertab Ramnauth and his captain Mavendra Dindyal set the foundation for Guyana to clinch their third successive win when they crushed Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) by 89 runs.

Ramnauth cracked seven fours and led all scorers on the day with 65 from 107 balls, and Dindyal supported with 51 from 64 balls, and the Guyanese continued their strong batting in the 50 overs-a-side tournament to reach 223 for eight from their allocation of 50 overs.

Ramnauth shared 85 for the first wicket with Romeo Deonarine, and Dindyal put on 54 with Thaddeus Lovell for the sixth wicket in two crucial partnerships that were the heartbeat of the Guyana batting after they chose to bat.

Deonarine made 30 and Lovell got 25, pacers Andrew Rambarran and Fareez Ali bagged three wickets apiece for T&T, and leg-spinner Aneal Rooplal collected two.

Pacer Jonathan van Lange ended with the flattering figures of four for eight from 3.5 overs to be the most successful Guyana bowler, but it was the efforts of fellow pacer Krisna Singh with three for 31 from his allotted 10 overs and Golcharran Chulai with two for 16 from eight overs that sent T&T crashing for 134 all out in 42.5 overs.

AT THE ARNOS VALE: Lee John hit 45 and paved the way for the Windwards to successfully chase 121 for victory against Leewards.

He shared exactly 50 for the third wicket with opener Earsinho Fontaine that put the home team firmly on track for victory before he fell to Carlton Pluck with one required to cross the finish line.

Earlier, Leewards failed to ease concerns about their batting after they were bowled out for 120 in 41.3 overs, having been put in to bat.

Pacer Jelani Joseph was the pick of the Windwards bowlers taking four for 29 in his allotted 10 overs, including senior Leewards and West Indies Under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman Jewel Andrew for the top score of 29.

The tournament continues tomorrow with the top-of-the-table battle between the Guyanese and Barbadians taking centre stage at Arnos Vale, Leewards facing Jamaica at Park Hill, and Windwards playing T&T at Sion Hill.
