McKay cries foul over unverified nomination

ST CATHERINE Football Association (SCFA) presidential candidate Jason McKay is calling foul, saying that incumbent Elaine Walker-Brown has been pulling “undemocratic tactics”.

The SCFA election, which was set to get under way today, has been postponed due to a Supreme Court-ordered injunction on Friday.

The injunction was filed by Royale Lakes FC, which claims that Walker-Brown breached the parish association’s constitution in several instances.

McKay also alleged that the Walker-Brown administration has been playing ‘fast and loose’ with election protocols to hamper his chances of gaining the office.

According to McKay, his nomination was considered unverified by the SCFA on Thursday. However, he said he is yet to receive any official communication from the association explaining the reasons behind the decision.

“I saw a document being circulated saying that my nomination is unverified, and I have heard nothing official from the FA,” McKay said.

“I have sent a letter, but I have been told nothing at all about why my nomination is unverified.”

He believes the decision is due to phantom charges being levelled against him to prevent him from running against Walker-Brown.

He was informed through media reports, that the unverified tag is due to a sum owed to the SCFA from a previous sponsorship agreement.

He claims that this is far from the truth and has shown invoices to the election committee to prove otherwise.

“I heard on the media saying that she said it was because I owe money, but I have produced to the election committee proof the last bill I received from Peter Reid to close off the sponsorship, and I showed them the paperwork relating to that.”

McKay also accused Walker-Brown of angling for an “unopposed election” to secure her chances of maintaining office in the SCFA.

He believes he was handed the unverified label to derail any opposition from challenging her administration in St Catherine.

“You cannot go into a slate with the presidential nominee unverified, It would simply be an unopposed election,” he said.

“What we’re seeing is an administration gone totally rogue. It is the equivalent of somebody saying that they’re going to be president for life because in no other sport would this be the standard.”

Up to press time, attempts to reach Walker-Brown for a response to McKay’s comments and about the court-ordered injunction proved futile.
