Jackson appears to be fine – Francis
Paris, France:
MVP COACH Stephen Francis says, from where he stands, world 200-metre champion, Shericka Jackson, is ready to compete when the first round of the women’s 100 metres at the Olympic Games in Paris, France, begins on Friday.
Francis was speaking after training yesterday at the Complexe sportif de l’Ile-des-Vannes where his MVP athletes were going through their preparations, the first time they have been seen at one of the designated training facilities.
The state of her fitness was put into question after she pulled up during the Gyulai István Memorial Meet in Hungary earlier this month. Jackson walked under her own power from the track.
With days left before the competition, Francis says that, to his knowledge, she should be ready to go for Friday.
“That is something that you are going to address with her medical personnel. But as far I know she appears OK to me,” Francis says.
Jackson only competed in one 100-metre race before the national championships last month, her May 4 opener of 11.03 seconds.
Since then, she successfully defended the national title with a season’s best of 10.84, currently the fifth-fastest time in the world this year.
Jackson won bronze in the Olympic final in Toyko three years ago, a part of Jamaica’s second 100 women’s sweep at the Olympics.
