Roje Stona mines gold in discus with Olympic record

Jamaica's Roje Stona delivered the country's first gold medal and fifth overall at the Paris Olympics.

The 25-year-old, competing in the men's discus, secured the gold in record breaking fashion as he threw an Olympic mark of 70.00m on his fourth attempt.

World record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania had to settle for the silver medal with his mark of 69.97m.

Australia's Matthew Denny took the bronze medal as he produced a championship-best effort of 69.31.

Jamaica's other representatives in the final, Traves Smikle, finished ninth with his mark of 65.61m while Ralford Mullings was 10th achieving a mark of 64.97m.
