Big test for JWPL champions Frazsiers Whip

Back-to-back Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) champions Frazsiers Whip will make their international club debut when they take on Alajuelense Women of Costa Rica in the regional Concacaf Women’s Club Championships at the Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Costa Rica today at 7 p.m.
Ahead of the match, coach Christopher Dowdy said his team will be up against a seasoned club with fully professional players but said their main is to do their best.
“The goal is to see how best we can match up because when you look at it, we will be playing teams with a lot more experience.
“These are professional players who have been playing for five to six years together and for us to step in with a bunch of players who do not really have international experience, we just have to go out and play our best and do our best, and once you give of your best you can never know what can happen in terms of results,” Dowdy said.
“So we are not going to say we are going out there to win. We are just going out there to get the experience. If we do go on and win the league (JWPL) again, we will have another chance to play in the championships and at that time a little bit of experience will kick in.”
The team recently lost more than eight players who helped them to the title over a month. Most of these players have gone abroad on scholarships while the others have returned colleges in the United States but Dowdy believes they still have enough quality to put up a good showing.
“The thing is to go there and make a mark. We want people to say that this team played some good football and persons can look forward to seeing us again.
“We are now back-to-back (local) champions and we are looking to do well in the Concacaf Women’s Club Championships. That is what we are really focusing on now, to see how best we can do because this is our first time in this competition,” he said.
Alajuelense are the top women’s team in Costa Rica. They won the Women’s Premier Division Apertura title by 11 points and currently lead the Clausura after two matches.
