BB Coke smash-and-grab leaves STETHS reeling
B.B. COKE High School continued their strong start to the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup yesterday, stunning St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) 1-0 at the STETHS playing field.
Despite a 55-minute delay for officials to arrive, B.B. Coke stuck to the task of making things difficult for STETHS, eventually getting the game’s lone goal through Enrique Powell in the 45th minute.
This victory lifted B.B. Coke to second in the Zone with six points. They lie behind Munro, who have a perfect nine from three starts.
STETHS remain on four points in third.
The result left B.B. Coke’s coach, Fitzroy Ambursley, a satisfied man.
“Our main objective this season was not to have any goals scored on us. Our next objective was to finish and we scored our goal and got a one-love win. It was a very hard, tough, and rugged game. The players stepped up to the plate and played hard as well. We came out this afternoon and did high-tempo drills so the boys could be focused,” said Ambursley
“They stuck to the plan and listened to me, so I will continue to work with them and to move with them in the next direction,” he added.
In the meantime, Omar ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn said he was not impressed with the players but is confident they will bounce back.
“This is the last drop of blood really for us to get our hands on our heart and our feet together and move forward. Now is the time if we want to advance to start playing better. We really needed these three points but unfortunately, we lost this game,” Wedderburn explained.
“We are not out, we are down but we have strength that we can rise on. Trust me, from here it is only upward movements,” he added.
B.B. Coke, who started the game as underdogs, held a slight advantage in the first half and were duly rewarded with Powell’s cheeky backheel on the stroke of half-time.
The former daCosta Cup champions came roaring back in the second half but stout defending from B.B. Coke meant they would keep their advantage.
