Anchovy High, the joint leaders in Zone B of the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup, are preparing for a tough battle when they face Rusea’s High at 3:30 p.m. today at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.

Anchovy and Frome High are tied on 12 points at the top of the zone while Rusea’s are in third on six points.

Maurice Duncan, coach of Anchovy, said he expects a tough fight against Rusea’s after they clipped them 1-0 at home.

“I know they are going to come at us especially because we won the first game so I am prepared to go at their team. My aim is to go down there (Lucea) and hope that the boys give a good account of themselves,” Duncan said.

“I don’t like the term underdogs but Anchovy in any zone with Frome and Rusea’s will always be underdogs. We have never won a trophy at the daCosta Cup or any level at ISSA. The game is played on the day so for me we are not the favourites but with God’s help, we will come out victorious,” Duncan said.

Meanwhile, Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, the coach of Rusea’s, said today’s matchup is a must-win game and the team wants to dominate at home.

“We are third in the zone and behind in points, so we need to play aggressive and get these three points. It is time for us to step up our game so we can move forward,” Davis told The Gleaner.

Unlike Rusea’s who have won 11 daCosta Cup titles, the furthest Anchovy have been is the quarterfinals in 2019.

According to Davis, although Anchovy have not lost since the start of the season that will not be on their minds when they take the field today.

“We have not thought about them not losing since the beginning of the season. We have to beat them today and get full points. It is not about them winning or losing any game this season, it is about us getting the three points today,” Davis said.
