Molynes put four past Maroons to get off the mark

Molynes United found their scoring boots in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) yesterday firing four unanswered goals past Chapelton Maroons, including a brace from Mickel Graham at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens.

Molynes collected their first points of the season after losing their previous two matches. Yesterday, following a nervous start, they looked fancied to go down to a third straight defeat as Chapelton started better and created the better chances.

Levaughn Williams and Nathaniel Howe missed good chances for Chapelton, and their efforts were sandwiched by a thumping Andrew Vanzie free kick that rattled the bar from 35 yards.

Molynes did not create their first opportunity until the 23rd minute when Jason Wright squeezed a shot between a couple of defenders and forced William Ferreira into a diving save.

However, Molynes took the lead in the 38th minute when Jevaughn Brown, out of nothing, curled a beauty from 23 yards out past Ferreira. Shortly after, Molynes then wasted two great chances to add to their lead as bad touches let down Shamario Dennis and Wright, who broke through on goal.

They would, however, add to their lead eight minutes into the second half when Graham worked his way into the area and fired inside Ferreira’s near post.

Graham then put the game out of Chapelton’s reach when he scored another impressive goal in the 71st minute. Good interplay between himself and Brown ended with Graham curling a delightful shot inside Ferreira’s far post.

Chapelton’s day got from bad to worse when Ferreira spilled a routine catch from a corner, and Taraj Andrews turned home the loose ball from four yards on the second attempt to make it 4-0.

Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas said their finishing was on point.

“I think we equipped ourselves well. We got some goals, and that’s pleasing to see. We created a whole lot of chances in the two games we played, but we were not converting.

“But today, I want to say hats off to the players. They did well in the final third, probably could have scored two more, but I am grateful,” he said.

His counterpart, O’Neil ‘Bigga’ Thompson, said it was a bad day at the office but that their performance deserved no more than what they got.

“I think it’s a bad day. There is no excuse. When you play that bad, you deserve to be beaten.

“We made mistakes at both ends of the pitch, and when you make mistakes like that there is no coming back from it,” he commented.
