Foster’s four-timer puts him clear in Jockeys’ title race
TEVIN FOSTER blanked rival Raddesh Roman with a four-timer on yesterday’s 10-race card, moving to 108 winners, four wins clear, after starting the day locked on 104 in their battle atop the jockeys’ standings.
Foster enjoyed winners on either half of the programme, first booting home a double, BROMPTON ALEX and MISS MONEYPENNY, in the second and third events, respectively, before closing his four-timer with PRINCESS RIA in the sixth and HIMAYA in the nightpan.
BROMPTON ALEX made all at five furlongs round, winning convincingly on his second start out of Philip Lee’s barn, following his runner-up effort at five furlongs straight.
Jason DaCosta’s MISS MONEYPENNY, sale-topper at last year’s Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Mixed Sale, went gate-to-wire in the third with Foster, clocking 1:08.1 for five and a half furlongs, registering her second win from as many starts in two-year-old events.
After revelling in Roman’s loss aboard POPE’S LADY to ZULU WARRIOR in the fifth, Foster’s army of fans celebrated wildly when the leading rider produced 5-2 chance PRINCESS RIA against the rail to win the sixth at five furlongs round.
Foster brought down the house in the 10th, closing a two-timer for DaCosta in Race 2, Series 3, of the BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series for the Reggae Skanking Sweet Trophy.
With a $2 million BGLC-TOBA bonus on the line, Foster used 5-1 chance HIMAYA to chase BLOOD MOON and MILA KAY in the seven-furlong event, pouncing off the home turn.
Grabbing the lead from BLOOD MOON a furlong out, HIMAYA quickened to beat three-year-old maidens by three and a quarter lengths in 1:30.1.
DaCosta has so far swept $4 million of BGLC-TOBA bonuses with three winning cheques in four Millionaires Series events, MISS MONEYPENNY, LOVISA and HIMAYA, whose victory marked the richest maiden three-year-old event in the history of local racing.
Philip Feanny saddled two winners, including FEARLESS SOUL at five furlongs straight in the Harlequin Cup, outbattling 4-5 favourite, SENSATIONAL MOVE, in the Harlequin Trophy at five furlongs straight for Open Allowance runners.
GILBERT handed 14-time champion trainer Feanny a quick double in the eighth at seven furlongs, stalking $1 million claimers before swatting BIG BIG DADDY off the lead a furlong and a half out.
Racing continues at the weekend with the three-day holiday Heroes Meet, Saturday-Sunday-Monday, with another BGLC-TOBA Millionaires Series event, the Heroes Day Sprint for maiden two-year-olds at five furlongs round.
