FOLLOWING HIS senior team’s 38-20 win over Merle Grove on Monday in their final game of the preliminary round of the ISSA Urban Schoolgirl Netball competition to top zone E, coach Wayne Stewart is hoping to go very deep into the competition this season.

The east Kingston school, playing away, dominated their rivals to stay unbeaten and, more importantly, advance to the second round of the competition.

After losing all their matches in the second round last year, Stewart is very confident that his team will put on a better show this time around.

“I am happy for the team and we are expected to go very deep into the competition this year, as the girls have been playing very well this season,” said Stewart.

Camperdown do not know who will be in their second-round group yet, but that hasn’t retarded Stewart’s confidence.

“We do not know who we will play in our next match but the girls are focused and are very positive,” said Stewart, who singled out centre, Latvia Hall, goal defence Kibby McCarthy, and goal shooter Deejana Harvey as his key players this season.

Stewart’s juniors, however, failed to move out of the preliminary round, despite getting the better of their opponents 20-18. They finished third in their zone, behind winners Wolmer’s Girls’ and Papine High. The top two teams advance.

Last year’s beaten senior finalists, Gaynstead, also advanced to the second round, remaining unbeaten in Zone C after an impressive 64-17 win over Convent of Mercy Academy (Alpha).
