TWO GOALS from Lashawn Barnaby in the 18th and 85th minutes, and one in the 64th from Odaine Thompson, yesterday propelled Denbigh High School to a historic semi-final place in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup semi-finals.

The Clarendon team earned the right after defeating Munro College 3-1 at Manchester High School – Jason Wilson scoring the latter’s consolation in the 81st minute.

Denbigh made their intention clear early in the encounter through the frontline play of Barnaby, Devor Wynter, and Alwardo Fearon, who were constant threats.

Barnaby, Denbigh’s top marksman this season, scored his 19th goal with a beauty. After receiving a ball some 40 yards out, he controlled well to kick a screamer that beat the outstretched arms of the Munro goalkeeper.

The goal spurred on the Denbigh players who continued to dominate but, despite several chances to increase their tally – Wynter. the culprit on a number of occasions – there were no additions before the half.

Munro were the busier of the two early in the second half, with Antwone Smith making a nuisance of himself. Still, the defending of skipper Marlon Murray and Suwayne Miller was good enough to keep the Munro talisman at bay.

Denbigh increased their lead in the 64th minute when Barnaby turned provider, combining well with Thompson in the 18-yard box before the latter tucked his effort away from close range.

Munro reduced the deficit after a scramble inside the Denbigh six-yard box after a defensive error to score in the 71st minute to make things interesting.

However, Barnaby returned to put the game out of reach, lobbing a pass from Dushwan Anderson over the goalkeeper for his 20th goal of the season.

“It was a high press for us today, as we saw what our neighbours Garvey Maceo did to Munro when beating them 3-0, and we replicated them. It was a good win for the guys and I am very proud of them. We are looking forward to the semi-final,” said Denbigh coach Garfield Carney.
