Waterhouse aim to rebound
For the last six games, Waterhouse FC have won just once in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL). And after their 3-0 defeat to Mount Pleasant Football Academy last Sunday, their second over the Christmas holidays, they remain confident that their problems can be solved to get their season back on track.
Those defeats have seen the former league leaders slip to fifth in the standings on 26 points, eight behind leaders Mount Pleasant.
Looking back at the Mount Pleasant game, Waterhouse’s head coach Marcel Gayle said, “We were a little bit slow out of the blocks ... we made a lot of changes in the squad and I think that we took a while to settle down.
“But we equipped ourselves and settled back down in the game. But it is something we can fix,” he declared.
He continued that their decision-making in the final third has been far below expectations, but that there were positives to build on.
“If our decision-making was a bit better we would have gotten some better opportunities. But we closed out the year, unfortunately, with a defeat. We wanted to win, we were at home, it’s just unfortunate. But there were positives. Young Mario Simms got his first start, and we tried other things that weren’t bad.
“So there are things we can work on going forward. It’s nothing to be too concerned about. We can get better,” he stated.
Waterhouse have the mammoth task of defeating defending champions Cavalier Soccer Club in the second game of a doubleheader at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday night at 7:45, but Gayle says they will be prepared.
“Every game is important. We look forward to every game and for every game we prepare differently. We are a little bit down now, but we will get back up and bounce back to winning ways very soon again. We just need to motivate them (players) and let them know we are still in it, so we can go again.”
Cavalier occupy fourth on 27 points.
