Edwin Allen, Holmwood dominate girls’ events at Fuller-Anderson meet

Defending inter-secondary champions Edwin Allen High and former champions Holmwood Technical dominated the action among the girls with some splendid performances at last Saturday’s JAAA- Puma Fuller-Anderson meet at G.C. Foster College.

Edwin Allen struck first as they swept the top three spots in the opening event of the meet, the 3000 metres open for girls. Sushana Johnson stopped the clock at 11:01. 59 to win the event to follow up on her win a week ago at Jamaica College. Teammates Denique Palmer (11:10. 43) and Briana Morris (11:14. 15) were second and third, respectively.

Holmwood replied quickly by winning two of the 800m events as Jovi Rose won in Class Two and Florence Nafamba in Class One. Rose won in 2:18.50, ahead of Alikay Reynolds of Alphansus Davis High, 2:18.39, and Kevon Gayle Fowler of Edwin Allen, third in 2:81. 40.

The top three places in Class One went to Holmwood. Nafamba won in 2:15.99’ ahead of Cindy Rose (2:16. 21) and Terrica Clarke, third in 216.68.

Edwin Allen also picked up a win in the two two-lap event as Romeann Gray won Class Three in a record 2:21.87, ahead of Aexia Palmer of Sydney Pagon High (2:22.26) and Sheneika Dennis of St Elizabeth Technical, 2:23.87.

Edwin Allen dominated the 200m. They won three out of four, while Holmwood closed the day’s proceedings after winning all 400 metres.

Adrianna Pine won the Class Four half-lap event for Edwin Allen in 25.61 seconds as Holmwood athletes Atalia Simpson (25.99) and Aliona Crawford (26.19) were second and third, respectively.

Edwin Allen’s Kereille Etienne topped Class Two in 24.53, ahead of Holmwood’s Anastasia Hall, 24.74. Jounee Armstrong captured Class One for Edwin Allen in 24.21 as Holmwood’s duo of Danielle Lewis (24.25) and Abriana Wright (24. 55) ended second and third, respectively.

Holmwood won all 400m with record breaking performances. In Class One, Abriana Wright won in 55.06; Anastasia Hall captured the Class Two event in 56.21, ahead of teammate Madison Campbell in 56.89; while in Class Three, Tracy Ann Evans won in 56.41.

Three solid wins for St Jago’s boys

St Jago High’s boys picked up three big wins with Class Two athlete Rushane Richards leading the way with a record run in the 400m. He lowered the old record of 49.44 with a 49.06 run, the only sub-50 seconds time in his class. Khieme Campbell followed up on his big performance a week ago in the 800m for a comprehensive win in Class Three 400m, after clocking 52.31. His teammate Jovaine Edwards was second in 53.18.

Their other win came in the Class One 800m. The outstanding Ryan Achua, competing for the first time in the event, clocked 1:54.91 for the win ahead of Excelsior High’s Ricardo Carr, who was second in 1:55. 38. Edwin Allen’s Joel Morgan took third in 1:56.23.

Antonio Powell scored an impressive win for Edwin Allen in the Class One 200m event after clocking 21.75. Daniel Francis of Alphansus Davis, 21.80, and Kenrick Austin of Edwin Allen, 21.86, ended second and third, respectively.

Manchester High had two wins on the day as Ajhani Wiggan won the Class Three 200m in 23.26, while teammate Tyrone Turner captured the Class Three 800m, producing a record run of 2:06.09.
