The charitable organisation, We Care for Cornwall Regional Hospital, got several thousand reasons to be thankful recently, when they became the happy recipient of a $500,000 donation from the Fairview, Montego Bay, branch of Fontana Pharmacy.

The donation, which was made by Bobby Chang, the founder of Fontana Pharmacy, was graciously accepted by the directors of We Care, which is the brainchild of the Sandals Foundation.

The We Care charity, which was launched in 2012, was created to work

alongside the hospital's team of professionals and the Ministry of Health to identify areas of need for the Montego Bay-based health institution

Operational deficiencies

In fact, in its four years, We Care has generated significant funding to address operational deficiencies at the hospital, where extensive work has been carried out on the paediatric ward, among other sections of the hospital.

The contribution by Fontana, which has made previous charitable donations to We Care, was made possible through ongoing in-store collections and management donations.

"Fontana Pharmacy continues to be a generous and consistent donor to the hospital, which serves residents in western Jamaica," said Chang, in expressing Fontana's motivation to support the hospital, which is the premier medical institution in that section of the island.

Eleanor Miller and Nicholas Feanny, two of the We Care directors, who were present for the handover of the donation, lauded Fontana for the kind gesture, noting that the donation will go towards addressing infrastructural and equipment needs.

"This will increase efforts to provide infrastructural and equipment upgrades to the Cornwall Regional Hospital," said Feanny, in expressing the organisation's gratitude.

At present, We Care is now focusing on carrying out work on the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department. The Yacht Club, located at Freeport, also in Montego Bay, recently made a $600,000 donation to the charity.
