Lucea mayor, councillor visit Bigwell after shootings
Mayor of Lucea and chairman of the Hanover Municipal Council, Sheridan Samuels, and Councillor of the Lucea Division, Easton Edwards, paid a joint visit to the Bigwell community in Lucea on Sunday, to express support to the families of three persons who were shot and injured there on Sunday morning.
The injured persons include two children and a woman, who were shot during a drive-by shooting in Bigwell in Lucea, in the wee hours of Sunday morning are reportedly in stable condition. A 12-year-old and a 13-year-old were left nursing gunshot wounds, during a gun attack which left taxi driver Andrew Malcolm, of the neighbouring Malcolm Heights community dead.
"The councillor for the area and, I visited and spoke to the people and met with the family. We also visited the family in Malcolm Heights where the deceased is from".
Children grazed
One of the children who one got hit, was grazed in the head in three places by the bullets," so he is in stable condition. The other who got struck in the hip and side, they have done surgery so he is in stable condition," Samuels who grew up in the community, said.
One Sunday, one resident said Malcolm, who was also known as 'Roun di Worl', had driven into the community shortly after 1:00 am and stopped at a shop to purchase some items, when two men rode up on a motorcycle and opened fire at him. The other there persons who were standing nearby were also hit.
The mayor said he was very troubled by the incident as Bigwell has never been associated with violence.
"As someone who grew up in Bigwell Lane, I know that it is one of the safest communities in Hanover, so it concerns me greatly. I think that with us having a new police commander now in place, there is hope, because I know she is a very hard-working leader," Samuels said.
