NOTE-WORTHY
Pedestrians' rights
Ms Joan Williams , in a letter to you recently, pleaded with motorists to be more considerate of the rights of pedestrians and cyclists in the use of roads.
In most civilised countries the road code ascribes pedestrians the first right of the road and this code is the official one in Jamaica but the practice is the direct opposite.
Motorists are openly intolerant of the rights of pedestrian, moreso to yield the rights to them. This has led to too many unnecessary injuries and deaths of innocent children, other pedestrians and cyclists and this is most uncivilised and unfair to the users of the road, who are entitled to more protection.
We should make a strong demand for the Police Traffic Department to enforce the traffic laws which protect these users of the road much more seriously.

Examining Sabbath keepers
Does Caula Greenwood-Wright (Gleaner, January 2) really believe the Lord would be displeased with her sitting an exam on the Sabbath?
How can she be happy studying at a secular institution and want the exam to be set on her terms? People like her make Christianity 'hard'.

RGD letdown
Having read about the bedside registration of new borns, I must say it is a pity that the Registrar General has not kept up its end of the bargain by handing over the 'free' birth certificates in time.
I had to apply for my niece's birth certificate recently and, even though I applied and paid for three copies, that is exactly what I received. I am still waiting to receive the free one, as the child was born September 13, 2009, and registered at the Falmouth Hospital.

False prophets
With reference to the published prophecies for 2010 - the scriptures determine the truthfulness of a prophet: "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor comes to pass, that [is] the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. Deuteronomy 18:22.
Jesus also gave this warning: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Ye shall know them by their fruits (fruits of character.) Matthew 7:15-16
