Mayberry achiever eyes top position

THE 2009 Employee of the Year at MayBerry Investments Limited, Ann Lapyette-Francis, has her eyes firmly set on reaching the top in the financial institution.

"My goal is to be the top of everything I do and this is just a stepping stone for me. I will continue to do what I am doing because I want to reach further," she noted.

Francis copped the award ahead of Silvie McRae and Michelle Chung who were second and third, respectively.

The top achiever believes her humble upbringing in Black River, St Elizabeth, moulded her into what she is today.

"Most people believe that as long as you are from St Elizabeth you must be brown, so I want to come out as the little black girl who has done extremely well and make the parish proud," she said.

Maintaining a huge smile she praised family and co-workers for her high achievements.

Former telephone operator

Francis joined MayBerry in 2004 as a telephone operator but with exceptional hard work and perseverance she moved up the ranks to become facility manager.

"My supervisors saw where I was being stifled, as I had more room for growth. They saw the potential as I wasn't just at the desk as an operator but I used to do other things," Francis added.

However, Francis disclosed that she didn't have a clue she would be considered for the noble position.

"I was surprised because there are other persons who were at the institution long before me who did well, so it was a very stiff competition, so I am grateful to be on top," she noted.

"I love my job and I love serving people so I go the extra mile to have my job done to the best of my ability."

She thanked her family and co-workers, stating that they have contributed immensely to her success.

Despite her hard work and commitment to the job, Francis still spends quality time with her family.

Third-place winner Michelle Chung disclosed that her four years of experience at the financial institution were enriching as they paved the way for future success.

Passionate about her job, Chung is confident she knows will reap good rewards.

In the meantime, vice-president of marketing Denise Williams noted that the CEO award for excellence was conceptualised to recognise individuals at all levels who were doing outstanding work at the company.

She said the winner was no surprise as Francis continued to display good working attitude.

"I don't even know if she knows what her job description is as she does almost everything," Williams noted.

"She is one of the persons who everyone in the company relies on."
