Sedene smashes runway records

Published:Sunday | February 28, 2010 | 12:00 AM

Vogue's style. com predicted that she would be one of three new faces to watch for the fall/winter show season and Pulse's Sedene Blake has already surpassed expectations.

Blake, who began her international career in New York in November, has been courted by an A-list of casting directors and stylists for the annual autumn collections and the fashion power players, who are some of the world's best designers, have responded with their confirmation of more than 35 shows for Pulse's newest star.

Blake's start and rapid ascent to international recognition after only less than a month in the global industry is indeed the stuff of which dreams are made. The cinnamon-skinned teenager was discovered on an otherwise uneventful Sunday afternoon at the Palace Cineplex, Sovereign Centre by Pulse executives Kingsley Cooper and Romae Gordon. Now, her wildest dreams are unfolding into a remarkable and extraordinary reality.

Superb line-up

Blake has amassed a superb line-up of designers in New York and her roster so far includes Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Custo Barcelona, Peter Som, Costello Tagliapietra, Phillip Lin and Caterine Malandrino. And, if the pace was blistering in New York, London has proved no different. In that city, she confirmed more than 15 shows of which were Viviene Westwood, Roksanda Illincic, Osman, Todd Lyn, PPQ, House of Holland, Nicole Fahri, Paul Smith and several others. She is now in Milan and heads for Paris afterwards.

Blake booked a 10-page editorial as her first job on the international fashion scene for Italian
Vogue
and subsequently shot four other editions of the magazine, all in a few weeks of being introduced to world modelling.

Greater impact

With these four major editorials for
Vogue
set to roll out on magazine stands in a few days and Blake's exceptional "coming out" at the fall/winter collections, she is set to make an even greater impact on the upcoming campaign season which follows the shows.

Such an exceptional beginning has had the blogs and major fashion websites abuzz about one of the world's most sought-after faces, with
Elle UK
comparing the teenager and Caribbean Model Search runner-up to the indomitable Iman.
Models.com
, Modelinia, Essence and several other major fashion watchers have their eyes firmly fixed on the Jamaican beauty and are predicting her rise to stardom, especially with her impressive showing on the runways of the first two major cities on the fashion calendar.

With 35 shows under her belt and only halfway through the season, Blake has already surpassed the record set by Pulse supermodel Jaunel Williams, who booked 35 shows in her first season on the global fashion runways.
