Styleweek postponement has not slowed momentum

This year, the postponement of Styleweek Jamaica has strengthened the resolve of CEO Deiwght Peters to show the world that Kingston city (and by extension Jamaica) is indeed a cosmopolitan city of creative, sophisticated, innovative and intellectually savvy people.

According to Peters, "In light of recent events and the consequent fallout, we recognise there is a lot at stake and have expanded the modus operandi of the entire styleweek event, and are working with our partners to ensure that this staging sends a strong and positive message to the world. I am very passionate about my country and have invested millions building the local fashion industry, and now is an opportune time to demonstrate and telegraph to the world - via Styleweek - that this city (country) is a hotbed of creative dynamism that would rival any other city in the world."

Styleweek's runway shows will be followed by a series of after-parties, while Styleweek finale, Fashionblock, which is held on Knutsford Boulevard, features a giant video board backdrop and a 150-foot catwalk in the streets of New Kingston.

This year's event will feature more than 30 of Jamaica's leading designers and talented newcomers have registered to participate exclusively at the Gleaner-sponsored Styleweek Jamaica.

The event will also feature a cadre of international designers, some of whom are celebrated in their fields. They will fly in from New York, London, Paris, and other regions in the Caribbean.

Fashionblock at Knutsford Boulevard on Sunday, July 11.
